RESUMO

Ossifying Renal Tumor of Infancy (ORTI) represents an extremely rare and benign renal neoplasm, with limited cases published in the literature. Predominantly characterized by painless and intermittent gross hematuria, the diagnostic evaluation is effectively facilitated through ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Despite progress, its etiology has not yet been elucidated. We report an additional case with an unusual clinical presentation.

RESUMO

Trichobezoard is a rare condition characterized by a gastric mass composed of hair or fibers due to a compulsive attitude (trichotillomania) and an eating disorder (trichophagia). Gastric trichobezoar is the most common form and may extend into the small bowel, sometimes reaching the last ileal loop, or even the transverse colon, resulting in Rapunzel syndrome. We here report a case of gastroduodenal and small intestine trichoboozoar in a 6-year-old girl with facies of trisomy, presenting with recurrent abdominal pain lasting for one months and suspected gastrointestinal lymphoma. The diagnosis of trichoboozoar was based on surgery. The purpose of this study is to give an overview of the history of this rare condition and to clarify the diagnostic and therapeutic approaches used.

RESUMO

Vesicoureteral reflux is very common in children, requiring a long follow-up period to reduce its progression toward chronic renal failure. This study aims to analyze the epidemiological diagnostic features, the management of vesicoureteral reflux and long term course of patients with this disease. We conducted a retrospective study of 42 patients with suspected vesicoureteral reflux hospitalized in the Department of Visceral Paediatric Surgery at the Hassan II University Hospital of Fez over a period of 6 years from January 2010 to December 2015. Mean age of patients at diagnosis was 3 years and 2 months. The boy is to girl sex ratio was 1.8. Vesicoureteral reflux was isolated in 81% of patients and secondary or associated in 19% of patients. The most common initial manifestation was urinary tract infection (90.4%). Renal function was impaired in 54.8% of children. The treatment was based on antibiotics against diagnosed UTI (90.4%), antibiotic prophylaxis in the case of recurrence and Cohen reimplantation (97.62%). Surgical indication readily concerned all patients with grades IV and V vesicoureteral reflux (73.9%) as well as patients with impaired kidneys and 26.1% of patients after medical treatment. Early and late postoperative course was in general satisfactory: disappearance of vesicoureteral reflux in 92.68% of cases. Upper urinary tract regressed except for 9.52% of patients; 95.23% of patients had complete recovery of renal function. There was a reduction in UTI recurrence (in 19.04% of cases after surgery). The majority of parents judged positively the clinical course of their children (54.76%) after surgery.

RESUMO

Fistulisation of Meckel's diverticulum in the top of an omphalocele sac is very rare. To our Knowledge, three cases were reported in the literature. We presente in this report a new case of this uncommon presentation.

RESUMO

Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is a slippage of the femoral epiphysis (femoral head) on the femoral neck. Femoral epiphysis usually slips backward and inward because of body weight. This disorder mainly occurs during puberty. We report the very rare case of a child with cerebral palsy associated with spasticity of the limbs.

RESUMO

The causes of neonatal bowel obstruction are variable and dominated by malformations and the Meckel diverticulum must remain exceptional. We report a case of neonatal bowel obstruction in a six day old male neonate admitted on account of inability to pass stool, abdominal distension and bilious vomiting. The radiologic additional examinations are non-specific. Exploratory laparotomy found obstruction at the site of a Meckel's diverticulum.

RESUMO

Type III Monteggia lesion is very rare, usually occurring within a context of violent trauma and often going unnoticed. We report the case of a 11-year old boy presenting to the Emergency Department with blunt trauma of the upper limb. The radiological evaluation showed olecranon fracture and radial epiphyseal separation associated with dislocation of the radial head. The patient underwent orthopedic treatment with good outcome after a mean follow-up of 3 months.

RESUMO

This study aims to describe the complications of elastic stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN) in the treatment of both-bone forearm diaphyseal fractures in the child. Between January 2009 and December 2013, 87 children with both-bone forearm diaphyseal fractures were treated by elastic stable intramedullary nailing with Métaizeau nails. 76 boys and 11 girls, with an average age of 12 years, were enrolled in the study. Nailing was promptly performed in 50 cases and after secondary displacement during plaster-cast treatment in the other cases. Both bones were nailed in all cases. All patients underwent systematic plaster immobilization for a period of about one month. On average, nails were removed after about 6 months. Functional outcomes were studied over a mean follow-up period of 10 months. Complications were marked by 14 superficial infections (14 cases), osteitis associated with material (2 cases), refracture (3 cases), pseudarthrosis (3 cases), delayed fracture consolidation (2 cases) and proximal radioulnar synostosis (1 case). Although intramedullary nailing ideally is an osteosynthesis technique suitable for the treatment of fractures in children, it is more invasive than orthopaedic treatment.Indications for treatment should remain within well-established limits.
